Acetyl L-Carnitine is also known as ALCAR, and has been widely popularized as the superior form to L-Carnitine pertaining to the bioavailability. Carnitine is the quaternary ammonium compound which is being used to move fatty acids out of the cytosol and into the mitochondria when the fats are being broken down, when these are needed to generate additional metabolic energy. The biologically active form of Carnitine is L-Carnitine; Acetyl L-Carnitine is the acetylated form of L-Carnitine and is also known as Acetylcarnitine. L-Carnitine is generally derived from lysine and methionine, which are both amino acids. While the neuro-protecting properties of Acetyl L-Carnitine have been tested on lab animals and some proof was obtained, the role of Acetyl L-Carnitine as a weight loss agent still needs some testing in studies on humans.

Berberine is an alkaloid plant used for medicinal purpose in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. It is yellow in color and bitter-tasting. Because of its strong yellow color berberine was used to dye wood, leather and wool.

Caffeine- The bitter, white crystalline xanthine alkaloid caffeine is found in tea, coffee, soft drinks, chocolates, pain relievers, and a variety of over the counter medications. It is a psychoactive stimulant drug that causes increased alertness by stimulating the central nervous system. For the same reason, many people feel more energetic after consuming it. It even elevates the mood but these effects do not last for long. The effects of caffeine usually last for about five to six hours, though caffeine sensitivity varies from person to person. It has been found that people who consume lot of caffeine on a daily basis soon develop less sensitivity and may need to increase their intake to enjoy the same effect. Being a diuretic, a person consuming caffeine may have to urinate more often.

Synephrine, also known as oxedrine, is the widely accepted replacement for ephedrine. The natural source of synephrine is the citrus aurantium fruit, better known as bitter orange. Bitter orange extracts, which contain synephrine, are known to stimulate the alpha-1 adrenergic receptor, thereby constricting blood vessels and increasing the heart rate as well as blood pressure, effecting in an increased energy use.
